The 5 pocket slim straight comes from the same place as the original workwear denim, it was built tough and made to last. But over time, the way people wore denim changed.
It wasn’t just about durability anymore, It had to look a bit sharper too.
So the fit evolved, same 5 pockets with the same foundation but just cut a little cleaner, a little closer.
It still feels rugged, just easier to wear through the day and into whatever comes after.

THE LEGACY OF JAPANESE SELVEDGE DENIM
As American mills moved towards faster production after World War II, Japan preserved traditional shuttle-loom weaving. In 1973, Kurabo introduced KD-8, Japan's first domestically produced denim fabric. Alongside this tradition, rope dyeing gave Japanese denim its distinctive indigo fades and character over time.

At the heart of our Sumo Selvedge Denim is 23 oz Japanese denim from Kaihara Corporation, Japan. Its thick yarns and left-hand twill weave create a dense, substantial character, while the deep indigo shade and prominent red selvedge line make it unmistakably distinctive.
